You love that pumpkin-spice-flavored everything is back on the shelves, but you’re not ready to part with your summertime shimmery beige and bronze eyeshadows. How do you keep your makeup in season while continuing to use these oh-so-flattering tones?
Fear not. Beauty editors and bloggers across the web are creating and writing about summer-to-fall makeup looks that combine the best of both worlds. A common/trending practice is to pair nude or neutral-family eyeshadow colors with a lip in a more autumnal color, like cranberry, mauve or eggplant.
YouTube-featured makeup artist and beauty blogger Teni Panosian (missmaven.com) posted a Summer-to-Fall makeup look in late August that combines shimmery desert-hued eyeshadow with a subtle mauve-brown lip color.
“When you’re using all-shimmer shadows, it’s going to be pretty subtle,” says Panoisan in her video, regarding layering and overlapping iridescent shadow.
“All the colors have that light-reflecting factor. Unless they’re very vibrant colors, they’re not going to stand out too much from one another. So it’s just a very subtle progression of color.”
Panosian demonstrated a well-blended bronze smokey eye, with a mid-tone all over lid from lash line to crease, then blended up and out toward the arch and tail of the eyebrow. The look also included a highlight color in the inner corners of the eyes and a slightly darker reddish-brown shadow in the outer part of the eyelid. To counterbalance the all-shimmer shadow, Panosian finished the look with subtle contouring in the cheeks and matte lip color.
Julia Graf a.k.a. MissChievous, another YouTube personality, also recently created a fall look with contrasting eyes and lips. However, Graf’s look is more bold and alternative, featuring a vibrant blue lip color based on the makeup worn by pop star Rhianna at New York Fashion Week 2015.
“Her eyes and the rest of her face were really warm-toned to counteract the cool tones on the lips,” says Graf in her video “Rhianna NYFW Blue Lips Fall Makeup.”
“I thought it was so fashion-forward. But if you think this blue lip is super-crazy, you could go for a really deep, vampy, purple-burgundy color for fall.”
Graf’s work also made use of a copper color with red tones in the outer corner of the eyelid.
Many other currently-trending fall makeup looks, including those worn by models at New York Fashion Week, make use of summer-y shades of pink and coral. For a simple transition into fall makeup, try substituting rosy or silver-toned eyeshadow in place of your more summertime gold and bronze shades.
