Many of us are enjoying far more at-home time than we’re used to, but that’s no excuse to not have fun with our styling! In fact, anyone will tell you that at home is the best low-pressure environment to take bold risks and try out something new. And if you really like what you’ve come up with, photograph the looks and publish to social media. Then all you have to do is sit back and wait (to get feedback.) for the client requests to pour in. Let’s begin, shall we?
1. Over Liner
Step aside simple, lined eyes. Makeup artists are applying eyeliner beyond the lid in exciting new shapes and colors. A pop of powder blue on the outer eyelid, hinting at the shape of the eye without conforming to the norm. Often, this look doesn’t even conform to the shape of the eye. There’s a lot to play with here if you love experimenting, so don’t be afraid to have fun with this.
2. Subtle Blush
The 70’s aren’t only affecting hair fashion this fall. A simple, almost “makeup-less” look is becoming popular again, with only hints of pigment and an overall dewy look. I light blush to resemble someone who’s just come in from a brisk breeze is enjoying a moment, and well defined eyelashes, with nude eyelids and even nude lipstick to match create a simpler, more natural look that is quite in contrast with many of the other trends here. If you like simple, this is the one for you.
3. Eye Embellishments
Fair warning, this is not for the faint of heart, or for anyone who doesn’t like applying glue. Embellishments around the eyes are serving some bold looks this autumn, especially crystal embellishments. Often, it will come in the form of a circle of small crystals around both eyes--or just the one, if you really want to make it artsy. This is no casual look, and works best with bold clothing choices and hair pulled back to keep the spotlight on the eyes.
4. Bold Eye Liner
Cat eyes are back! Dramatic liner is back! Eyeliner is coming back thickly, with many models and fashion influencers applying it liberally again to create bold, sometimes even haunted eyes. Or a touch of dramatic fun with a large wing. Black eyeliner is even user for over liner, creating bold shapes and lending an overall gothic appeal to the look.
Speaking of gothic, it’s worth noting that gothic is back as well. Dark, deep colors--blacks and deep greens--are taking over in eyeliners and eyeshadows, and intense contouring is paired with a dramatically dark lip. While this used to be more fringe fashion, it’s in the mainstream, gracing runways and completing looks. No matter how you apply it, gothic is a brilliant way to create a mood.
6. Unexpected Shadow colors
Eyeshadow is being applied in every color of the rainbow in fall 202, and sometimes all at once! Like never before, it is trending to make your eyelids your own personal canvas. Blend colors, go neon, pastel, or dark with this; the only limit is your imagination. We’ve seen some incredible eyeshadow combinations and nothing is too dramatic right now. This is a great look for a night out, or even a night in, where you’re putting it on for nothing else, but to see how far you can push the limit.
7. Wine and Red Lipsticks
Wine and burgundy lipsticks are hugely popular right now, in part thanks to the returning popularity of gothic makeup. They aren’t limited to gothic though--a burgundy lip can add a touch of elegance and romance to many ensembles. Bright red is also in right now, throwing a bold spot of color into monochrome outfits and a touch of vintage class to modern looks. If you really want to go all out? Pin curls are back too, and the combo of a pin curl and bright red lip is irresistible to try!
