At Cameo, we recognize and value the fact that each student is different. (Seriously, our instructors and clients would get really bored if all of you were the same.) And while our staff is here for you to answer questions about your individual cosmetology career, we’ve noticed that prospective students have a lot of the same initial, burning questions on their mind. So here they are, in no particular order. This information (and more!) is all available on our website, but we’ve laid it out here, plain and simple, in our Top 5 Most Frequently Asked Questions:
1. How much will my cosmetology training cost?
Tuition at Cameo is currently $17,325.00
Books, uniform and equipment fees are $1,675.00
Registration fee is $100.00
So the total is $19,100.00
Remember: We have the same Financial Aid; grants and loans, as any two or four year college.
When you make an appointment for a tour/interview, we will happy to help you find out what Financial Aid you qualify for.
2. How long will it take?
That depends on how much time you can commit to school per week. Cameo offers four different class schedules so you can pick the one that best fits into your busy life.
Full-time: 12 Months (Tuesday thru Friday - 9am to 5pm)
Part-time Day Morning: 16 Months (Tuesday thru Friday - 9am to 1pm and Saturday 9am to 5:30pm)
Part-time Day Afternoon: 18 Months (Tuesday thru Friday 12:00 noon - 5pm
Part-time Evening: 18 Months (Tuesday thru Friday - 6pm to 9pm and Saturday 9am to 5:30pm)
3. How do I get accepted?
To be accepted to the student cosmetology program, you must first hold a high school diploma or a GED. The second step is to schedule a tour/ admissions interview. To make an appointment for a tour/admissions interview, call the school at (708) 636-4660.
Please try to be prompt. If you can't make it, please reschedule.
And don’t think you have to wait until spring or fall! In most cases, Cameo can start a new student on any Tuesday.
Requirements for the Cosmetology Teacher Course are slightly different: you must be at least 18 and hold a current Illinois Cosmetology license, on top of having your high school diploma or GED.
4. What jobs will I be qualified for once I finish school?
We recommend that you check out the “Your Career” section of our website. In the meantime, here’s a quick breakdown of jobs you can be eligible for once you graduate from Cameo and pass the Illinois Licensing Exam as a Cosmetologist, Cosmetician, Operator and/or Hairdresser:
Hair Stylist
Hair Coloring Technician
Permanent Waving Tech
Scalp & Hair Specialist
Facial Expert
Makeup Artist
Esthetician
Nail Tech
Salon Manager/Salon Supervisor
As you can see, there are a variety of career paths here, with different niche concentrations in skin, hair and nails, as well as different levels of shop management, should you choose to pursue those specialized routes.
5. What are classes like?
Just like many other college classes, our Cosmetology Course includes “classroom” and “student salon practical”. You’ll spend time in a classroom learning theory from an instructor and media; but you’ll spend increasingly more time in the “student salon” setting, applying what you’ve learned in the classroom to hands-on experience with real equipment, and with real customers. Cameo Beauty Academy also takes great care to instill students with business and interpersonal skills, specialized to this industry. Because once you’re out there, in a salon, you’ll have to get clients in your chair before you can wow them with your skills and abilities.
